Netherlands Gallery 19 September - 31 January 2021

New work by Saskia Boelsums, landscape artist and Artist of the Year 2020 is being exhibited at the John Constable exhibition in Teylers Museum

From September 19 to January 31, 2021, Teylers Museum is showing the first retrospective of drawings, watercolors and paintings by the world-famous English landscape painter John Constable. He is a contemporary of William Turner and is mentioned in the same breath as Dutch painters such as Van Ruisdael and Rembrandt. The exhibition also includes new work by Saskia Boelsums, landscape photographer and Artist of the Year 2020.

Constable is a grand master in painting landscapes and cloudy skies. Cloudy skies are timeless and an inexhaustible source of inspiration for contemporary artists. The museum has commissioned Saskia Boelsums to create new work that is inspired by the landscapes and cloudy skies of Constable.

When commenting on the work of Constable, Saskia says: “I have thoroughly studied Constable's work and I find that very inspiring. It is wonderful to do. I recognize his passion and boundless enthusiasm, and sometimes also the almost desperate inability to capture the power of nature on the flat surface.”

Several new landscape photographs by Saskia Boelsums, inspired by the work of Constable, can be seen in large format in the museum's Tuinzaal during the exhibition.
